If you are a child and your parent hasn’t helped you set up your account, you may have a Cabined Account with different features. Visit this page if you think you might have a Cabined Account to learn more.
We highly recommend enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) for the following reasons:
- Security!
2FA increases the security of your account. Even if somebody guesses your password, they won’t be able to access your account. - Free games!
2FA is required to claim some free games on the Epic Games Store. - Gifting!
2FA is required to send gifts in Fortnite. - Competing in Fortnite!
2FA is required for participation in Fortnite competitive events such as the Fortnite World Cup!
Since your account security is a priority for us, we also give players rewards for enabling 2FA.
How do I enable 2FA?
- Go to the ACCOUNT page
- Click the PASSWORD & SECURITY tab
- Under the TWO-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION header, click the 2FA option you want to enable: ENABLE AUTHENTICATOR APP, ENABLE SMS AUTHENTICATION or ENABLE EMAIL AUTHENTICATION.
If you opt to use an authenticator app for 2FA, these common authenticator apps can be found in your mobile device app store:
- Google Authenticator
- LastPass Authenticator
- Microsoft Authenticator
- Authy
Verify that 2FA is enabled
1. After you select your authentication method, you should receive a code from Epic Games for email and SMS, and the App should generate a code for you
2. Input the code and you should see a success message (example below is for email)
3. Refresh your account page and confirm that the authentication method shows as being enabled by looking for the blue button that says ‘On’
Please note that if you choose more than (1) authentication method, you will want to check the box that says “Make this my primary Two-Factor authentication method” on your preferred method of contact.
